What degree do you need to be a software engineer to start your career change

What degree do you need to be a software engineer? There is no single degree requirement shared by every role. Employers set their own criteria, and some positions require formal qualifications. Become supports practical learning through a weekly plan and reviewed projects, helping you build evidence you can explain alongside your background.

What degree do you need to be a software engineer? There is no single degree requirement shared by every role. Employers set their own criteria, and some positions require formal qualifications. Become supports practical learning through a weekly plan and reviewed projects, helping you build evidence you can explain alongside your background.

Getting started

Do I need a degree before I start learning?

You can start learning programming without first earning a degree. A computer science or related degree can provide useful foundations, but job requirements vary by employer and role. Check the requirements for work that interests you and use projects to develop practical understanding. Become does not replace a qualification that a particular employer requires.

Can AI teach me for free?

You can use freely available AI tools and learning materials to explore programming. You still need to decide what to study, practice applying it, check explanations, and assess your own work. Become is a paid subscription that connects a personal weekly plan with project reviews against a rubric. The value to assess is the structure and feedback you expect to use.

Will Become get me a job?

Become does not guarantee a job, interview, or offer. It supports learning and preparation through weekly planning, project feedback, and the features included in your plan. Pro adds portfolio review, mock interviews, and an employer profile. Employers make their own decisions, and you remain responsible for demonstrating your skills and checking each role's requirements.

What if I do not have much time?

Start with the hours you can realistically protect in an ordinary week. Become uses your available hours to create a personal weekly plan, so the starting point is your actual capacity. You still need time for practice and revision. A smaller consistent commitment can be more workable than a schedule you cannot maintain, but there is no promised completion date.

Plans and billing

What does each plan include?

Learner costs USD 49 per month and includes 2 project reviews per month and questions to an AI mentor. Pro costs USD 149 per month and includes 6 project reviews per month, portfolio review, mock interviews, and an employer profile. Teams costs USD 499 per month for up to 5 seats, with a progress dashboard, roles, SSO, invoices, and SLA. Compare pricing before subscribing.

Is Become too expensive compared with other ways to learn?

Consider the support you will use and the commitment you can sustain. A bootcamp can cost around ten thousand US dollars, while Become uses a subscription model. That comparison does not mean the formats provide identical experiences or outcomes. Free materials may suit independent study, while a subscription may fit someone who wants weekly structure and rubric based feedback. Compare total spending over the time you expect to participate.

How does annual billing work?

Annual billing costs 50 percent less than monthly billing and charges for the annual period. The subscription renews annually unless canceled before renewal. Monthly project review allowances still apply by month, so annual billing does not provide the whole year's reviews at once. Review your expected use before choosing an annual commitment because subscriptions have no refunds.

What happens when I cancel and can I get a refund?

Cancellation stops future renewals and leaves access available for the remainder of the paid period, subject to the service terms. There are no refunds for payments, unused time, or unused allowances. Mandatory rights under applicable law still apply. Read the Terms of Service for the subscription conditions and contact [email protected] if you need help with a billing question.

Projects and reviews

How are projects assessed?

Become assesses projects against a rubric, giving feedback a defined reference. Read the comments alongside your submission and identify what each point asks you to understand or improve. Revise the work and check the result. The purpose is to connect practice with specific feedback that you can use, rather than treating submission alone as evidence that you understand a topic.

Does deleting a project give me a review back?

No. Plan limits count usage during the applicable period. Deleting a project, submission, or other counted item does not restore the allowance it consumed. Your remaining allowance reflects consumption in that period, rather than only the items that remain visible. Choose the work you submit with your review allowance in mind and contact support if a usage record appears incorrect.

How do portfolio review and an employer profile help?

Pro includes portfolio review, mock interviews, and an employer profile to support how you present your work. Use them to practice explaining a project's purpose, your contribution, and the decisions behind it. Describe limitations honestly and choose examples you understand. These features support preparation and presentation without guaranteeing employer interest, interviews, or employment.

Teams

What is included for companies?

Teams costs USD 499 per month for up to 5 seats and includes a progress dashboard, admin, mentor, and learner roles, SSO, invoices, and SLA. It supports companies organizing learning and discussing progress across participants. Review Teams for the comparison with junior hiring, including program cost per participant, mentoring capacity, and readiness for productive work.

Can we subscribe without a sales meeting?

Yes. Teams is available through self service subscription. Review the plan, billing interval, included seats, and applicable service terms before purchasing. Decide who will coordinate participation, who will support learners, and how much learning time employees can use. SSO, invoices, and SLA are included, with specific service commitments governed by the applicable SLA rather than an assumed response time.
